I'm Moa, a family photographer based in Cooks Beach, creating relaxed, storytelling family photography throughout Whitianga, Hahei, Hot Water Beach and the wider Coromandel Peninsula.

Cooks beach is a beautiful place for family photos. We're lucky to be surrounded by stunning beaches and nature reserves that make taking beautiful photos easy. A few of my favourite local photography locations are the north end of Cooks beach, Lonely bay and Shakespeare Reserve. The best time of the day for these beaches are either during sunrise, sunset or golden hour (within a couple hours of sunrise and sunset). During summertime, this is usually between 6-8am and 6-8pm, and in wintertime it's between 7-9am and 3-5pm. Here are some photos I've taken of families around Cooks beach.

What's the best time of the year for family photos in Cooks beach?
A.It depends on what you're after! If you want to walk on the beach in a bikini, or with a baby bump out, and maybe even go for a swim - I'd choose sometime between November and March. If you want empty beaches, easier timings for the kids and beautiful soft light - I'd choose sometime between April and October.
