1. Speak From Your Heart
The first and most simple method is to tell him why it matters to you. Tell him about wanting to be in the photos, about capturing these fleeting years before it’s too late, about putting family photos on the walls and looking back at family albums.
2. Reassure him
One of the biggest reasons dads don’t like the idea of family photos is that they’re afraid of being awkward, having to pose or fake smiles. Reassure him you’ve found a photographer that focuses more on play and authentic moments rather than “say cheese”.
3. Make it a fun outing
Focus on the photo session as a fun outing, both when you talk to your hubby and your kids about it. You’ll have fun, play and cuddle at the beach. You might even want to stay at the beach or go get some fish and chips or an ice cream after your session, so it brings some of the focus away from getting photos.
4. Keep it short
Another thing that can take the pressure off is to book a shorter session, at least for your first time taking family photos. My mini sessions are a great way to see what it’s like to get photos taken, and many families tell me it was way easier and more fun than they expected after their session.
5. Make it a gift
If you’ve tried to other tricks and he’s still not convinced, I’ve recently had several mums ask for or even book a session as a Mother’s Day or Birthday gift for themselves, some even saying they’re going to make it a yearly thing to come back each Mother’s Day to get their family photos taken.
